The Liverpool Arms is one of the best known pubs on the Isle of Man. Standing mid way between Onchan and Laxey, this former coaching house is the original Half Way House and the road it stands on is universally referred to as ‘The L.A. Straight’. Since September 2000 Nigel Dobson and his team have been at the helm and built an impressive reputation of quality pub food with that little bit of extra style. Using local ingredients wherever possible, eating out at The Liverpool Arms has always been a pleasant experience. But now is has been improved. During April 2008 Nigel and his wife, Marilyn, have invested heavily in a major refurbishment. With new lighting throughout, new décor and carpets, wide screen TV’s, free internet access and the whole building set up as a WiFi Hot Spot, also complementary, and a new menu to tempt your taste buds. But The L.A. isn’t just about eating out. “First and foremost we are a pub” said Nigel. “Eating in a pub is not the same as going to a restaurant because it’s a pub. We are less formal than other eateries because of our unique atmosphere. You can only create that if you really are a public house. We still provide a pool table, dart board and football on Saturdays! We take as much care of our beer as we do our food. If I wanted to run a restaurant, I would. In fact I do at Niarbyl! What makes The Liverpool Arms special is that we remember where we come from. For all the investment in new ideas and modern food we still also supply a quality pie and a decent pint”
